NCapture for Chrome

NCapture is a free web browser extension that enables users to gather material from the web to import into NVivo for Windows or NVivo for Mac.

NCapture is currently available for Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

What is NCapture?

The NCapture web browser extension enables users to gather material from the web to import into NVivo. NCapture for Chrome is currently available for Google Chrome 44 or later.

The following NVivo versions can import NCapture files:

  • Windows: NVivo 14, Release 1, NVivo 12, NVivo 11, NVivo 10

  • Mac: NVivo 14, Release 1, NVivo 12, NVivo 11, NVivo 10 from v10.1*

*Some capture types not supported.

Installing NCapture

You can install NCapture from the Chrome Web Store.

If you install NVivo 12 Windows (or NVivo 11 for Windows or NVivo 10 for Windows) using the Wizard, you can optionally install NCapture for Chrome during the installation.

Users do not need to have NVivo installed on their computer, in order to capture content using NCapture.

Enabling NCapture

The NCapture extension is automatically disabled by Chrome after installation—unless it is installed directly from the Chrome Web Store.

You may need to assist your users with enabling NCapture.

To enable NCapture for Chrome:

  1. In Google Chrome, click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.

  2. Click Tools.

  3. Click Extensions.

  4. Select the Enable box for NCapture.

Keeping NCapture up to date

NCapture is updated regularly to keep pace with changes to web browsers, social media sites and NVivo.

NCapture for Chrome is automatically updated. Users do not need administrative privileges. For more information, refer to Updating NCapture for Chrome.
