Understand what is installed

When you install NVivo Collaboration Server, the following components are installed (if required and not already present):

  • SQL Server 2017 Standard Edition

  • Microsoft .Net Framework 4.8

  • Windows Management Framework 4.0

You can install NVivo Collaboration Server on a physical or virtual server device. It consists of the following software components:

  • SQL Server database instance—NVivo Collaboration Server is installed with its own SQL Server database instance (QSRNVIVO9). The SQL Server database instance is created during installation.

  • NVivo Collaboration Server metabase—the metabase is installed in the QSRNVIVO9 SQL Server instance. The NVivo Collaboration Server metabase contains data used by NVivo Collaboration Server to manage server roles and permissions, licenses and projects.

  • NVivo Collaboration Server Service—a Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) service.

  • NVivo Collaboration Server Managerthe NVivo Collaboration Server Manager is a browser-based application that can be used to administer the NVivo Collaboration Server which runs in Internet Information Services (IIS). Under IIS, the application is installed in the server's web application pool.

During the installation process for NVivo Collaboration Server, you can choose to use an SSL certificate to host NVivo Collaboration Server Manager. This creates a secure connection (HTTPS) between NVivo Collaboration Server Manager, NVivo Collaboration Server and the NVivo client. It means that all communication is encrypted, ensuring privacy and data integrity.

Understand the network configuration required for Active Directory authentication

Active Directory authentication is supported as part of standard installation on a single domain. NVivo Collaboration Server and the user accounts that will authenticate with NVivo should be on the same domain.

If you have custom requirements that differ to the standard installation, please contact QSR International Support to discuss further options.

The NVivo Collaboration Server application and database files are installed to:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\QSR\NVivo for Teams

  • C:\ProgramData\QSR\NVivo for Teams

NVivo for Teams projects are stored in the following location (you can modify this location after installation):
