Updating NVivo

NVivo 12 Windows

QSR International releases frequent updates for NVivo in order to remain compatible with other software packages, for bug fixes and security updates, and to add or improve features. We recommend that all updates should be installed.

Standard updates

If NVivo was installed with a standard installation, users are notified when new updates are available when they open NVivo. Provided that they have administrator rights on the computer, these users can click to download and install the update.

If NVivo was installed using command line installation, update notifications may have been disabled (see Installation options and parameters/Public properties). However, users can still check for updates if they wish:

  1. Every 7 days: In NVivo, go to File > Options > Notifications and set Check for software updates to Every 7 Days.

  2. On demand: In NVivo, go to File > Help > Check for software updates.

Command line updates

Updates can be run from the command line in the same way as installations. You should receive an email for each update with a link to download the update. Alternatively check for updates on the QSR International web site.

  1. Open the command line prompt as an administrator.

  2. Change the directory to the location you saved the update file.

  3. Execute the update installer, e.g:

>Update.x64.exe

Optionally, add parameters for unattended installation, with or without a progress bar (see Update_options).
